Richmond was ranked 57th and Virginia Beach was ranked 106th, according to the list. Meanwhile, Washington DC made it among the top 20.

The list is generated by analyzing 150 metro areas across the country based on quality of life, job market, value of living and people's desire to live there.

Richmond received an overall score of 6.3 out of 10. As "the only city in America with whitewater rapids running through its downtown district," USN said Richmond offers a range of housing options that appeal to everyone from "young families to retirees."

The city also ranked the 66th best place to retire, according to another list from USN.

Virginia Beach received an overall score of 6 out of 10. As Virginia's largest metro area, USN said Virginia Beach has maintained statuses as both a resort city and a permanent place to live.

"The glorious ocean views, beautiful waterfront homes and award-winning restaurants make this vacation destination a place worthy of being calling home," USN said.

Virginia Beach was also praised for its job market in the Hampton Roads region and heavily military presence. USN also ranked the city the 51st best place to retire.
